Recession Busters

May1

One of the words we hear so often in the last year is recession. It’s in the news, in the papers, radio, TV and billboards – it’s defiantly the cocktail party word out there. So how can anybody go out shopping if recession is all we hear? I even feel bad at the supermarket line when I’m buying milk and eggs because in days of recession, there is a common notion that we should spend less money, if any at all. But even during this economical climate it is not a crime to continue enjoying our lives. Maybe we won’t get that huge LCD we’ve been dreaming about, but if we cut some here and trim a bit there, we might be able to save some money and enjoy recession prices that can’t be beat. Here are a few suggestions of how to get the hottest recession deals:

1. Circuit City went all chapter 11. Tower Records and Virgin Mega Stores are long gone. Businesses and chains across the nation can’t take it anymore. I know it’s not polite to dance on anybody’s grave, but if there’s a liquidation sale in your neighborhood – you should start running there. Expect huge sales and long lines.

2. Eat out! If you still have the means, this is defiantly the best time to enjoy good food at high-end restaurants. Some restaurants that you only dreamed of eating at, offer great recession prices and prix-fix menus.

3. Spoil yourself with a new netbook. The cute little 8.9 inch laptops are the new thing on the market. They are small, convenient, and fairly strong, with lots of storage room and they cost only 200 dollars. They are all recession oriented and a great buy for you gadget savvy enthusiasts.

4. Rock at a concert. Live shows are usually very expensive. Good seats can easily liquidate 150 bucks out of your wallet. But in times of recession, some artists offer rocking ticket prices. U2 will sell 10,000 tickets for every concert around 30 dollars and Keith Urban will also perform for 20 dollar seats. And while you’re at it, go concert shopping. You will find great deals on promotional merchandise, as low as $7 shirts and $5 CD’s.

5. Bargain. Recession is the best time to bargain. On anything. Start with your rent or mortgage. Bargain at the local grocery and even at the big wholesale chain stores. You don’t have do drive a hard bargain in order to get a great discount.

6. Take that vacation. Hotel and cruise prices, car rental, airfare, have all gone down dramatically. A night in a four star hotel in Vegas can be as low as $30 as the hospitality industry is desperate to fill more rooms and get more people out of their houses.

7. Grab a one time deal online. For recession busters, gift ideas and discount electronics including occasional freebies, visit dailysteals.

Notebook Buying Guides

Multimedia keys

Switches and buttons

Buttons are switches should be present for the most common functions such as launching your browser, opening the media player or even switching WLAN on and off. Convenience is the name of the game here.

Switches and buttons

Dedicated keys

Some notebooks will have dedicated keys for some applications; these are usually configurable using software.

Dedicated keys

Screen size

When you choose a notebook one of the first considerations is what screen size do you need. A bigger screen may seem like the obvious choice, but notebooks are supposed to be portable. Imagine the horror of lugging around a 17-inch laptop. However, there may be those who do not need to carry their notebook with them everywhere and for such people a large notebook is definitely better. Such large-screen, bulky notebooks are called desktop replacements; mainly because they sit still on your desktop. Such notebooks are usually of a screen size of 16-inches and above. 17-inch notebooks are the most common.

A screen size of 15.4-inches is considered a de facto size for notebooks although some people regard this size to be a little too large for enabling true portability. 14.1-inch notebooks are becoming the new de facto size category; striking a good balance between flexibility in performance and size and weight.

The compact segment (aside from netbooks) is generally the hottest category because such notebooks bring extreme portability along with good performance. Notebooks with screen sizes of 11.1-inches, 12.1-inches and 13.3-inches are the most common ones. Generally, the smaller the screen gets, the costlier the notebook tends to become since shrinking of size means more attention to other factors such as heat dissipation and actual fitment of components.

Screen Size

Extending battery life

A few notebooks have a dedicated switch for switching between an integrated video solution and the discrete graphics solution. Since an onboard solution will consume one fifth the power this is handy when operating on battery juice.

Battery

Storage

Notebooks do not use the same hard drives that desktop PCs use. A smaller form factor, i.e. 2.5-inches, is prevalent. Notebook hard drives also come with different spindle speeds; faster speeds mean better performance at the cost of extra heat generation and more importantly possibly lower battery life. The three common speeds are 4,200 rpm, 5,400 rpm and 7,200 rpm. Stay away from 4,200 rpm drives; these are a little too slow for most users. 5,400 rpm is what you should look at; remember that 7,200 rpm drives are better, albeit costlier, and some very compact notebooks cannot utilize these hard drives for fear of overheating.

The Solid State Drive (SSD) is a relatively new technology that has first found its way into the notebook space. The biggest advantage with SSD is the lack of any moving parts; this allows SSDs to enjoy very low power consumption and yet have higher performance than any normal hard disk drive. In fact, the read and write speeds of SSDs are three times higher than the fastest HDDs around – a very solid performance increment. The only downside with SSD is that it is a new technology and is very costly. Data density is also not as high as HDDs. The highest capacity SSDs are in the region of 250 GB; these cost fifty times more than a hard drive of the same capacity. However, smaller capacities like 32 GB and 64 GB are a little more affordable and if you want extreme performance and better battery life then you may opt for an SSD storage based notebook. Many manufacturers are offering such drives as optional upgrades on various notebooks.

When it comes to storage there is no optimum figure although 160 GB is a good place to start. Real data hogs may need to invest in a 320 GB hard drive. Opt for a SATA drive if your notebook supports it; Serial ATA is a faster interface. Most notebooks today feature SATA connectivity.

Storage

USB Ports

USB ports are important for all notebook users. Although you may initially feel that a couple of USB ports are more than enough, a couple of days of use may change your opinion forever. There may be a case where a user may need to simultaneously connect four USB devices such as a USB mouse, printer, thumb drive and their PDA; this means that four USB ports would be required. We figure most regular users will need at least two ports; so given future expansion three ports would be just right.

Almost all notebooks come with memory card readers inbuilt; this is a real boon for anyone looking to hook up their memory cards directly to the notebook as it frees up one USB port. Users wanting to back up a lot of data fast may want to look at a faster alternative to USB; many notebooks come with FireWire ports and although rare, Laptops with E-SATA connects are also available.

USB Ports

Video Connectivity

A notebook will always have some form of video connectivity; depending on your usage this may not be a factor or it may significantly the buying decision. A D-Sub port is usually de facto for connection to a larger monitor. With large screen LCD monitors becoming common we figure DVI is one connector your notebook ought to have; this is because many of the newer LCD monitors do not have D-Sub connectors at all. Either of these connectors can also be used with a projector; this is useful for presentations. HDMI connectivity is also a huge plus since this allows direct connection with large LCD and plasma panels and is important if you wish your notebook to double as an HTPC.

How to Revive a Dead Laptop Battery

May1

Bring a seemingly-dead laptop battery back to life, to a usable condition, although not quite like-new. It could be almost as good as a replacement laptop battery and a lot cheaper than a universal external laptop battery. Using a Freezer, the same place you put your frozen peas and TV dinners, you could restore a dead laptop battery.

Simply follow the instructions below and save yourself some money. It will only cost you the time it takes to complete the list below. So do yourself a favour and do it yourself.

1. Place a dead laptop battery in a completely sealed plastic bag.    2. Place the bag and battery in your freezer for between 11-14 hours.    3. Remove the bag from your freezer and allow the battery return to room temperature after taking it out of the bag, this is very important.    4. If your laptop batteries are still damp dry it using a cloth or towel.    5. Place your once dead laptop batteries back into your laptop.    6. Now completely charge your battery then leave it on to discharge it completely. Repeat this step at least 3-4 times.    7. Your dead battery should be much more usable, if not totally restored.

Well, consider replacing the internal batteries at a fraction of the cost of the alternatives methods. So, do not condemn your laptop battery to the recycle bin just for the moment. Using this method could see you saving yourself between 30-90% of the cost of your replacement laptop battery. This cheap alternative method is to substitute the batteries inside the battery pack with a brand new set. You first need to remove the battery pack from your laptop. You will then need to open the battery pack carefully, a screwdriver should do the job. Inside you will be confronted with several batteries and a host of wires. A word of warning, if any battery is leaking proceed carefully. If you are not sure then do not continue.

Now you will need to make a note of the type of laptop battery you have and exactly, I repeat exactly how it is connected (wired) to each other. Just to be sure you could test your old batteries with a millimeter or similar device to see just what state they are in. If you touch these leaking batteries then dispose of them appropriately and then make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and you’re back in business. After confirming that they are in fact dead laptop batteries you will need to order some replacement batteries. To do this ensure the replacement have a higher milliamp value than the old ones, just slightly. When you receive your replacement laptop batteries put the new batteries in the correct positions and replace the wiring so you can do the necessary soldering. Make sure to use the appropriate safety equipment and double check all connections are correct. Once your laptop batteries are in place and everything confirmed you should test them with your millimetre to ensure they are working as expected.

Reassemble the laptop battery pack and seal it properly. Re-install the laptop battery into your laptop and start enjoying your laptop’s new lease of life.

Travel Tips – Don’t let your holiday end in wireless disaster

Don’t let your holiday end in wireless disaster

With four long weekends before the end of the year, travel plans are on the horizon for many of us.

As much as sunscreen and shampoo are travel necessities, so are laptops, netbooks and smartphones. And to get online, people are increasingly taking advantage of wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) networks.

Wi-Fi networks
are available in airports, hotels and even in the air.

While offering convenience and flexibility, Wi-Fi networks are unfortunately also easy entry points for hackers looking to steal your money, account information and identity.

Your holiday could be ruined in an instant by cyber-criminals looking to rob you of your personal information. Imagine stepping off the plane, ready to start your holiday vacation, only to realise your bank account has been wiped out and your credit card information stolen.

Here’s five easy tips to ensure your holiday doesn’t end in disaster.

1. Pay attention to your surroundings

Remember, if you can read his magazine, the man sitting next to you on the plane can also read what’s on your laptop screen.

2. Beware of “Evil Twins”

Some Wi-Fi networks can appear to be legitimate, but are not. Criminals can create “dummy” networks or Web sites that contain the name of the airline, hotel or airport, but will actually direct your information to their own computer. If you always use the access keys provided by the airline, hotel, or airport, you’ll be protected.

3. Always assume your Wi-Fi connections are being eavesdropped on

Never enter sensitive data (bank account information, NRIC numbers, etc.) when browsing the Web via a Wi-Fi network.

4. Set any Bluetooth devices to “hidden”, not “visible”

If you do not use the Bluetooth function, turn it off altogether.

5. Keep your security software current and active

Mobile PCs are vulnerable to the same viruses, Trojans, and worms as your home computer. There is a wide range of Internet security software on the market to tackle this, from reputable brands like Norton, BitDefender and McAfee.

ACER Aspire 3935-6504 laptop batteries|AS09B56 laptop batteries

May1

Stay unplugged longer with the new ACER AS09B56 2900mAh Li-ion Battery. This 14.4V Li-ion/Lithium-ion battery can replace the original system battery or be used as a spare. ACER computer batteries life (and recharge times) will vary based on many factors including screen brightness, applications, features, power management, battery conditioning and other customer preferences.

Acer’s new Aspire 3935 manages to fit a standard Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 3GB of RAM, and a decent 250GB hard drive into a slim chassis with a brushed metal finish . The trade-offs are the integrated graphics (the standard MacBook offers Nvidia’s excellent GeForce 9400 GPU), a touch pad that’s merely adequate, and a dearth of any kind of video output besides VGA.  (Cheap FPCBP216AP 10.8V,3 cell Laptop Batteries, battery for FUJITSU FPCBP216AP)

The eye-catching Acer Aspire 3935 is only 1-inch thick, and the attractive bronze chassis has a brushed-metal overlay on the back of the lid. It’s not as sturdy as the all-metal construction of the ($400-more-expensive) MacBook, but it generally felt solid and well-built, with a couple of exceptions. The plastic optical-drive tray wiggled and clicked under our fingers whenever we picked the system up, and we could occasionally hear the hard drive shutter and groan during even gentle handling.

A familiar-looking keyboard apes those found on Apple, Sony, and recent Dell laptops, with widely spaced, flat-topped keys. It’s comfortable and easy to use, and includes full page-up and page-down keys, which we always find useful. The touch pad is usable but slightly cramped, and the mouse buttons require a firm click to register. The touchpad does, however, include a handful of multitouch gesture controls, including a photo-zooming pinch, and two-finger horizontal scrolling. We’re fans of touch-pad gestures, but actually getting the gestures to register was hit-or-miss, and the small touch pad surface didn’t give us a lot of room to work.

The 13.3-inch wide-screen LED display offers a 1,366×768 native resolution, which is standard for a 16:9 screen this size, and slightly higher than the usual 1,200×800 found on most non-16:9 13-inch laptops. The display was bright and easy to read, but also very glossy, so be warned if stray light reflections bother you.

The Acer Aspire 3935 performed on par with other mid-priced 13-inch laptops, such as HP’s AMD-powered Pavilion dv3z, and Gateway’s Gateway UC7807u. None were a match for the more expensive MacBook, but in the 13-inch category, Dell’s high-end $2,000 Adamo was far behind in each of our benchmark tests, thanks to its slower ultra-low voltage CPU (although that same chip helps the Adamo be arguably the slimmest laptop on the market today). (Cheap ASUS Eee PC 1101HA laptop batteries)

In anecdotal use, we found the Aspire 3935 well-suited for everyday multitasking, including Web surfing, media playback, and working on office documents. The integrated Intel graphics aren’t going to do much more than play casual Web games–another area where the MacBook has an advantage, with its Nvidia GeForce 9400 graphics.

The Acer Aspire 3935 ran for 3 hours and 2 minutes on our video playback battery drain test, using the included four-cell battery. That’s decent for a 13-inch laptop, but a few models, such as the HP dv3z and the 13-inch MacBook, can run for much longer. Our battery drain test is a grueling one, so you can expect longer life from casual use. Acer also includes a button labeled PowerSmart above the keyboard, which automatically dims the display and changes the color scheme to Vista basic, along with a few other power profile tweaks. It’s nothing you can’t do yourself manually, but the one-button operation is handy. http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/hp-hstnn-ob0f.htm

Still can’t decide which of Acer’s ample number of shiny new netbooks / laptops has caught your eye specifically? Here’s some more details on two of those models, including availability, to help you out. First up, the 13.3-inch Aspire 3935 is available as now for just a smidgen under nine Benjamins. With that you’ll get a golden brown metal chassis, one inch thick and weighing in at 4.18 pounds with a frameless, 16:9 CineCrystal LED backlit display showing a 1366 x 768 resolution. Other amenities include a full-size keyboard with touch-sensitive hotkeys, multi-gesture touchpad, webcam, three USB 2.0 ports, a bio-protection fingerprint reader, 802.11 a / g / draft-N, and a 4-cell Li-ion battery. Spec-wise, we’ve got a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T7350 with 4500MHD graphics, 8x DVD writer, 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, and Vista Home Premium SP1. If you’re looking for something with a little more horsepower, the 18.4-inch Aspire 8935G Gemstone PC’s rocking an Intel Core 2 Duo, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670, 1080p resolution, 4x Blu-ray writer, a 500GB HDD upgradeable to 1TB, and most of the niceties from 3935’s spec sheet.  http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/dell-f310j.htm

Sony Vaio X Series Laptops

May1

Sony shocked everyone back at IFA 2009 with the introduction of the X series VAIO notebook, which is the direct successor to the TT series in the USA. It appeared super slim at the time and in its delicious teaser video courtesy of Sony Europe some people got extremely curious about its arrival. Sony revealed the full details on the new VAIO X series and has called it the world’s lightest notebook – at 1.6 pounds with standard battery, measurements at its narrowest point: 10.95 (W) x 0.55 (H – about half an inch thin aka 13.9mm) x 7.29 (D). The VAIO X, due October 22nd, in black and champagne features a durable carbon fiber casing, seamless aluminum keyboard panel and a touch pad with multi-touch functionality. This allows you to easily zoom in and out, flip through pictures, rotate items and scroll vertically and horizontally without ever touching your mouse. There’s also a Motioneye web camera built-in.

Heading downwards, we find a familiar looking keyboard that’s done in chiclet style. Despite the extra space from its almost 12-inch (11.6-inch) frame, the keyboard and key layout still feels tiny for comfortable usage. There’s also quite a bit of flex that does sometimes detract from the typing experience.

Also notable is the Vaio’s touchpad, which supports multi-touch input. This allows gestures such as pinching together two fingers to zoom in, for example. A pair of flip-out feet underneath the chassis lifts it to angle the keyboard when on a desk, and we found the Vaio X Series comfortable to use when sitting on your lap as well, as the screen can be pushed quite far back to a suitable angle.

Moving on to inspect other build aspects of the notebook, we found that the screen quality was great with decent viewing angles and brightness. You’ll find that despite the higher resolution (1366×768), the fonts were still pretty crisp and clear.

If you are a fan of the small Sony laptops, you will have to look at the new range of Sony VAIO X series of notebooks. It weighs just 655 gram. Running on an Intel Atom TM chip that is normally seen in a netbook, the latest Intel AtomTM Processor Z550 has the latest Windows 7 OS and a solid state drive. Out to target business users on the go, the higher range Sony VAIO is 3G enabled for fast online surfing.
The specs are pretty close to what was predicted, but there are a few surprises including a lower-than-expected price. Sony also detailed its upcoming Vaio CW series laptops, which are less expensive than the X series.

Despite its low weight, the X Series still provides a decent range of connectivity options, consisting of 802.11b/g/Draft n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a built-in Everywair HSDPA modem for wireless broadband, enabling buyers to stay connected virtually anywhere. It also has two USB ports, VGA output, Ethernet connector, headphone jack socket and two slots along its front edge for SD Card and Sony’s own Memory Stick Pro Duo Flash storage cards. As a measure of just how thin the Vaio X series is, a hinged cover forms one half of the Ethernet connector, because the laptop’s chassis is too thin to accommodate a standard size Ethernet jack.

Although we were pleasantly surprised by how usable the X-Series was during a working day, it seems ridiculous to spend this much and have to switch off the graphical effects. Our overall experience would have been a lot more pleasant if the graphics chipset was more powerful, but Intel’s GMA 500 chip is designed for power frugality rather than speed. And this frugality does reap dividends. The X-Series kept going over seven hours when idle, and even when pushed to its limit it kept going for three hours. Considering this whole laptop weighs a miserly 766g (1.05kg with the power supply), that’s a stunning achievement. And if you’re after true stamina, take note of the extended battery Sony will be selling. This straps onto the bottom of the X-Series, and Sony estimates it will last 20 hours. It’s worth stepping back for a moment here: 20 hours!

Lenovo Makes Space for AMD Chips on ThinkPad Laptops

May1

Lenovo is looking beyond long-term partner Intel and beginning to offer budget ThinkPad laptops based on Advanced Micro Devices’ processors, the company said on Monday.

The company announced a new line of ThinkPad Edge laptops that will include AMD’s single-core and dual-core Athlon Neo and Turion Neo processors.

ThinkPad Edge laptops will be priced between US$500 and $800, said Charles Sune, global marketing manager at Lenovo. The first Edge offering, priced starting at $549, will include a 13.3-inch screen. More Edge laptops will be released later this year with screen sizes between 13 inches and 15 inches and either AMD Turion and low-power Athlon Neo chips.

AMD Athlon Neo chips will also be offered in the new ThinkPad X100e ultrathin laptop, which offers the portability of netbooks but adequate performance to run multimedia applications. Priced starting at $449, the laptop weighs under 3 pounds (0.45 kilograms) and includes an 11.6-inch screen.

The X100e will support up to 250GB of hard drive storage, up to 4GB of memory, and include ATI Radeon 3200 integrated graphics. It will offer up to two hours of battery life on a three-cell battery, and five hours on a six-cell battery.

The new laptops will be available immediately and will be on display at the Consumer Electronics Show, which will be held in Las Vegas between Jan. 7 and 10.

“AMD provides us a lot of great price and performance in those lower price points,” Sune said. The laptops will provide strong multimedia features and help the company address lower price points, which should complement the overall PC portfolio, Sune said.

Lenovo’s commitment to using AMD chips in ThinkPads comes a few weeks after the U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed an antitrust lawsuit against Intel, accusing the chip maker of illegally using its dominant market position to stifle competition and deprive consumers of microprocessor choice. Intel has denied the FTC’s claims. Intel is the world’s largest chip maker, with its processors going into more than 80 percent of PCs worldwide.

AMD late last year settled a lawsuit with Intel for $1.25 billion after accusing the chip maker of offering rebates that kept AMD from making deals with PC makers.

Convincing Lenovo to use its processors should boost AMD’s laptop chip sales and expand its presence in a market dominated by Intel. AMD chips are already offered in PCs by vendors including Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Acer and Toshiba.

Offering chips outside of Intel should also increase the microprocessor choice available to laptop buyers, said Leslie Sobon, AMD’s vice president of worldwide product marketing.

“Choice drives a better experience for the consumer. Choice is always a good thing,” Sobon said.

Intel’s low-voltage chips will be available as an option in ThinkPad Edge laptops, but the X100e will only be AMD-only, Lenovo’s Sune said. The Edge laptop will be available with mobile broadband options including WiMax and Wi-Fi.

Top 3 Operating Systems for E-Readers

May1

During 2009, e-readers were operating at maximum efficiency with over 2.2 million devices being shipped to stores. In 2010, the demand for e-readers is expected to increase by more than 50%. Their operating systems create the necessary base for these popular devices. Many first-class eBook Readers run full operating systems and can function like a computer.

Google Android

It is not surprising that Google Android tops the list of operating systems for e-readers. The Barnes and Noble ‘Nook’ was the first e-reader to use Google Android. Since that launch, Google Android has been used in various e-readers and that trend is expected to continue into the future.

Google Android gives users access to 1,000,000 free, public-domain books digitized by Google. All devices using the Android system can tap into Android apps and vice versa. In addition, Google understands that the real power of the open source Android lies with the Operating System Defaults. Google eBooks will serve as the default on every Android device.

The innovative eDGe e-reader, created by Entourage Systems, runs Google Android operating system. The eDGge is a netbook/e-reader combination which offers users the convenience of a Google toolbar on the right screen. Running on Wi-Fi and 3G networks, users can surf the internet, watch videos, or engage in video chat with this device.

Spring Design’s ‘Alex’ will also support Android apps. Yet any applications which require internet access will work only with Wi-Fi. With this dual-display e-reader, the 6.5″ e-ink screen for reading sits above a 3.5” color LCD. Users can display images and video, view notes, and even browse the web.

Expected to be released in 2010, the proposed Netronix, a collaboration between Texas Instruments and a Taiwanese networking specialist, is also an Android-based e-reader. Android e-readers allow portability of books (between Android e-readers) as well as access to Android apps.

Linux

The new Skiff reader is a Linux-based system. The Skiff reader is said to be the largest (11.5″) and thinnest (0.25″) with the highest-resolution (UXGA – 1200 x 1600). The Skiff reader is expected to be on sale later in the year. Interested buyers will be able to find it online and at over 1000 Sprint stores in the US.

Sony Reader runs the MontaVista Linux Professional Edition operating system. Sony ebook Library is not supported on Linux. Yet when this device is connected, it grants access to its flash memory and memory card slots (as if they were USB Mass Storage Devices).

Amazon’s Kindle DX runs Linux-2.6.22.19. Operating system updates are received wirelessly and install automatically during a period in sleep mode in which the wireless is in operation. As it was noted in the article “Amazon Offer Kindle for Sale in Europe – Will they Succeed“, the device is being offered globally on the 3G network with no charges for the wireless connectivity that is used to download eBooks (Digital Book Readers). With its Wacom touchscreen, Illiad runs Linux 2.4 kernel.

Due to its open Linux operating system, Illiad can run third-party applications created for it. The Hanlin eReader v3, one of the first Open Source e-readers, is built on the Linux operating system. China’s Hanvon uses Linux 2.6 and Cool-er, Pocketbook, and Bookeen also run Linux.

Windows

Although Windows is slipping in popularity, it will remain a major player in operating system market for many years into the future. Sony PRS-505/SC Digital eBook Reader, with its company software Sony ebook Library, is similar to iTunes and requires Windows. The software will not work on the 64-bit version of Windows XP but does support Windows Vista and Windows 7. Recent announcements point to the use of Windows 7 in new color ’slate’ e-readers such as Archos or HP. The Taiwanese company, MSI, has also created an e-reader/computer combo which runs Windows 7.

E-readers with operational systems, such as the leading Google Android, encourage openness. These innovative devices are ‘cracked’ to allow users to run Android apps as well as download music and access social networks. Yet Fortify Software, the application vulnerability specialist, has issued a warning to corporations about possible security issues with modified e-readers. When a devise is ‘cracked’ or repurposed in this manner, there isn’t any way to check the security of the operating system ‘cracks’ or newly installed programs.

For usage outside the corporate world, however, e-readers have few drawbacks. E-reader companies are always trying to improve on features, performance, and design. E-readers have made a tremendous impact on the reading experience – what we read, where we read, and how we read books and newspapers. More and more people are choosing e-readers and their state-of-the art operating systems are helping to drive that demand.
